About Costello/ Fitzgibbon Family

I started looking into the Costello (Sheehy) & Fitzgibbon (Fleming) family history as a project (of love) for my hubby Pat Gibbons.

As a grandchild of Irish immigrants Michael Gibbons (alias John Costello) and Kate Fitzgibbon, Pat was eligible to apply for (dual) Irish citizenship, but he needed to prove it and hadn't been able to get very far in the late 1990's-- finding all the correct legal documentation seemed nearly impossible.

Fast forward to the 2000's, however, the internet age and electronic records took off and hence this web site!

Since we had to collect legal documents, I scrambled for a long time to gather birth, marriage and death certificates of his grandparents with little to no information to go on (the originals had been lost).

There were lots of twists, turns and surprises along the way [e.g., name changes (Costello to Gibbons), erroneous birthplaces, etc.]. But there were also many people that went out of their way to help. For example, having one letter written to the U.S. Social Security Administration back in the 1930's, which my hubby collected from his dear aunt Marie Gibbons, provided the correct spelling of his paternal great grandmother's last name (Sheehy).

Recent inquiries on sites, such as Ancestry.com, led to a series of more connections with long lost Costello, Fitzgibbon, Fleming and Sheehy relatives. This communication has resulted in a 'growing'multi-generational picture of these families across the US, Australia and, of course, Ireland.

Our wish is that you will discover your own kin on the family tree. And that you'll add/update your own family information and share personal photos and stories.

Enjoy!

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
